Product Features
Motorized 7" TFT LCD Monitor: The XDVD8183 features a motorized 7" TFT Active Matrix, 16:9 touch-screen display with an adjustable viewing angle. The resolution of the display is 480 x 234 for a total of 336,960 pixels with a contrast ratio of 300:1. The screen has a 120° horizontal viewing angle (60° left or right), and a 90° vertical viewing angle (30° up and 60° down). In addition to the 7" video monitor, the unit has a small secondary blue/white dot matrix LCD display for system information while the monitor is closed.
Note: In addition to the unit's touch-screen controls, the in-dash DVD player also features front panel hard-key controls, when you only want to listen to audio without the need of the motorized screen.
Display Angle Adjustment: You can adjust the display's angle for better visibility. The display tilts forward to 45° and backward to 120°, allowing you to choose one of 6 tilt positions.
Picture Adjustment: You can adjust the brightness, sharpness, contrast, tint and color of the video display from 0 to 20 while in iPod video, Aux-In or Backup Camera mode.
Audio/Video iPlug: This unit features the audio/video iPlug, a 6.75' interface cable that allows you to listen to any portable music, video, or multimedia player equipped with a 3.5mm headphone jack or audio/video RCA output. You can connect an iPod to the iPlug using the supplied adapter cable.
Note: The special iPod cable can be connected to the head unit through the iPlug or through a dedicated iPod jack on the rear panel.
MP3/WMA Playback: The XDVD8183 can play MP3/WMA files that have been recorded on CD-ROM, CD-R, and CD-RW discs. The files must be recorded in ISO 9660 Level 1 or 2, Yellow Book Mode 1 or Mode 2 Form 1, or Joliet formats. Compatible bit rates are 40 to 320 kbps for MP3, and 40-192 kbps for WMA. Recorded discs can have up to 1500 files and 8 folder levels.
AM/FM Tuner: The unit's built-in AM/FM tuner allows you to store up to 36 FM and 12 AM presets. The unit also features Auto Store Preset which automatically programs the 12 strongest stations available for the current band selected. In addition, the tuner features Scan Tuning which allows the tuner to automatically scan through all the available stations and tunes into each of them for 10 seconds before moving onto the next available station or until you select a desired channel.
Electronic Skip Protection: This unit is equipped with a high-speed flash memory buffer for skip resistant playback. This ESP offers skip protection for DVD, CD, MP3, and WMA discs.

Programmable Turn-On Volume: You can program the initial turn-on volume of the in-dash DVD player so that the unit always turns on at the same volume.
Rear View Camera Input: The head unit features a function that automatically switches to the rear camera image when a rear camera is installed on your vehicle. When the shift lever is in the reverse position, the screen automatically switches to the rear view camera.
Anti-Theft Code: The unit features a user customized 4-digit password to lock the unit from operating if battery power is disconnected for more than 40 seconds.
Wireless Remote Controls: The XDVD8183 comes supplied with a full-function IR wireless remote control with numeric keypad for direct track access.
DVD/Video CD Features
Video Lockout::
Disc Compatibility: The Dual XDVD8183 is compatible with the following types of discs.
- CD:: CD-Audio, CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW
- DVD:
TV Shape: You can select the unit's LCD screen to display a 4:3 or 16:9 image.
View Mode: The unit's View Mode can be set to Fill, Original, H-Fit, W-Fit, Fit to Screen or Pan Scan to match the unit's LCD screen display with the source input.
Area Touch-Screen Controls: The XDVD8183 feature several hidden Touch-Screen areas of the screen while watching a DVD. By pressing certain areas of the screen, while watching a movie, allows you to access the following functions.
- A (Left Corner of Screen):: displays the Main menu
- B (Top Middle Portion of Screen): displays the DVD disc's information
- C (Middle Left of the Screen): selects previous chapters
- D (Middle Right of the Screen): selects next chapter
- E (Bottom Middle Portion of Screen): displays the full DVD transport touch-screen controls at bottom of screen

Search Window: The unit's Search Window function allows you to search for a specific time, title or chapter of a DVD disc.
Zoom Mode: Using the wireless remote control, you can zoom in on a picture 2x, 3x, or 4x normal size. Once the Zoom Mode is active, the arrow keys on the remote will pan the screen up, down, right and left so you can look at a particular segment of the zoomed-in image.
Multi-Angle Display: This function allows you to choose the viewing angle of scenes that were shot from a number of different angles.
Note::
Preamp Outputs: The XDVD8183 has 6 channels of preamp outputs: front L/R, rear L/R, center, and subwoofer. If you want 6-channel theater-style sound, you can hook up the appropriate external amplifiers and speakers to the front, rear, center, and subwoofer preamp outputs. When the unit is in 6-channel mode, you can independently adjust the level of each speaker from -10 to +10.
Surround Setup: You can input the size and presence of each speaker in your sound system by entering "Large" or "Small" for Front left/right, and "Large," "Small," or "None" for Rear left/right and Center. For the Subwoofer, you can enter "Present" or "None." You can select "Large" for speakers that give a full-range output. When "Small" is selected, it will activate a predetermined high-pass filter that will prevent low frequencies from being sent to those speakers while rerouting those low frequencies to your subwoofer or subwoofers.
Dynamic Range Control: This function reduces a Dolby Digital soundtrack's dynamic range so you can hear quieter dialog without being overwhelmed by loud sections. You can choose a setting of On or Off.
Pink Noise Generator: The built-in pink noise generator helps you set the relative speaker levels for multi-channel playback. You can play pink noise through the left front, center, right front, left surround, right surround, and subwoofer outputs.
Center/Rear Delay: You can adjust the time difference between the center and the front speakers to create a time delay between 1 and 5 milliseconds to produce a more accurate audio effect. You can also adjust the time difference between the rear and front speakers between 3 and 15 milliseconds.
Fast Forward/Fast Reverse: When playing a DVD or CD, there are four fast-play speeds in both directions (2x, 4x, 8x, and 20x).
Repeat Play: When playing a DVD, you can repeat the current chapter or title. When playing a CD, you can repeat the current track. For MP3/WMA, you can repeat the current file or folder. A-B Repeat allows you to repeat any portion of a DVD.
Note::
Parental Lock: The in-dash DVD player features a Parental Lock system that uses a 1-8 rating system (Kid safe, G, PG, PG-13, PG-R, R, NC-17 or Adult) to prevent certain discs from being played. The rating selection is protected by a user-customized 4-digit password.
External Device Controls
iPod Compatibility: Most iPods from 3rd generation to 5th generation, equipped with the proprietary dock connector, can be connected to and controlled by the head unit (see list below for firmware versions, the iPod Shuffle is not compatible because it has no dock connector). When the iPod is connected, it can be controlled via the touch-screen and rotary dial. The screen displays all information including playlists, artists, albums, and songs. You can also view pictures and videos from 5th Generation iPods. In addition, your iPod will charge while connected and the system is turned on. The following specific iPods are compatible with this unit.

Note: The iPod photo/video display of the unit will not operate while the vehicle is moving. The parking brake will need to be engaged just like when watching a DVD. At this time the iPod classic, 3rd generation nano, iPod touch, and iPhone are not supported.
Built-In Bluetooth: The XDVD8183 features built-in Bluetooth wireless technology that is Bluetooth version 1.2 compliant and supports Bluetooth's Hands Free Profile. The unit allows wireless communication with most Bluetooth enabled phones. The XDVD8183 allows you to listen to your calls through your car-audio's speaker system and talk through the unit's built-in front panel microphone. In addition, the in-dash DVD player gives you the ability to answer and place calls via the unit's touch-screen, one-touch dialing from your downloaded phonebook, and on-screen caller ID. You can pair up to 4 mobile phones with this head-unit.
Note: All XDVD8183 HFP functions work with the iPhone (using iPhone FW version 1.0.2) with the exception of caller ID. When a call is being received, the head unit will display "Incoming Call". The iPhone does not support A2DP or AVRCP.
Inputs and Outputs Notes
6-Channel Audio Preamp Outputs: This unit has six audio preamp outputs: front left and right, rear left and right, center, and subwoofer.
iPod Input: The iPod input has an 8-pin DIN connector on a 7" pigtail. This input is used with the supplied iPod cable for both audio and control commands.
Aux Input: The Aux input consists of left and right RCA audio jacks and an RCA composite video jack, allowing you to connect external A/V equipment to this head unit.
Video Out 1 & 2: These RCA composite video jacks allow you add external monitors.
Camera Input: This RCA composite video jack allows you connect an optional rear view camera.
Parking Brake Wire: The emergency brake safety wire (yellow/blue) must be connected to the parking brake mechanism in your vehicle in order to view video or still images on the the unit's video display.
